What can I do in my free time?

Good question! and to be really honest with you, the list is endless. Why teach English?

Why teach English?

For anyone who can speak English it’s easy to learn how to teach English, even by people with little or no previous experience. And teaching in Cambodia is both rewarding and lucrative. TEFL and TESOL certificates are instantly recognized as the simplest way into this life-style. You can obtain both with me (and other certificates it’s not possible to obtain anywhere else).

In short, if you can speak English you can teach it !!

Before you have even completed your ATI training, you will already have experienced teaching willing, eager students and have understood the love and respect given to you by the Khmer people, both children and adults. For example a local Khmer teacher will earn $45 – $70 a month. Yes! You read that right! You on the other hand can earn a thousand dollars a month, or more if you want. Your pay scales vary from $8p.h to $25p.h and you can choose to work as many or as few hours as you wish to fund whatever life-style you desire. Don’t worry, even Khmer teachers have a great life and have fun with their salary and do not envy you in the least. They want you to be happy above everything else and recognize your contribution to Cambodian society.

Jobs themselves are pretty easy to find. Personally, when I first entered Cambodia, I had only a TESOL/TEFL plus a few hours practice teaching under my belt. I was nervous, but not for long! The Khmer people helped me and showed me what to do. I visited 20 universities, colleges and schools with my C.V. Within a couple of days I was working at 2 schools and within a month every single place I had visited got back to me!!! Two of the places did politely decline, but kept me on file, but 18 DID!!!.

Accommodation in Cambodia

What accommodation options are there?

The first questions people tend to ask about Cambodia is “Where do I stay?” and “How much is it?”

First off, do not expect miracles, this is a developing nation after all!! However, saying that, adventure and excitement is on the cards.

Selected students can stay with Mr Aspinall and his family (free) until they find their feet if they wish. Especially on the first day here, when undoubtedly the long journey has tired you out and you have no desire to go through the hassle of checking in.

Alternatively, if his house is full, accommodation in Cambodia can start at about 12USD per night for a guesthouse room, right up to luxury hotels catering for the ‘well-to-do’ tourist. It really depends what your budget is.
